Final Reflections On New Zealand

The very first thing that happened to us when we arrived in New Zealand was a pleasant anticlimax.

We had been warned by several people how strict and tough the customs process would be when we entered the country. We were all ready for an interrogation on where our hiking boots had been, and we were half expecting to get caught with some contraband food item, like a granola bar.

But instead, a friendly man in a uniform asked us a few necessary questions, chatted with us a bit, and then ushered us into his country with a friendly wave. That was our first introduction to Kiwi culture, and we never looked back.

We loved this country. We loved the people, the scenery, the geology, the food, the roads, the wildlife, everything. And we still love it, even from all the way over here in the USA, and we can't wait to go back.

And hopefully, with any luck, we'll have the opportunity to live there someday.
