There's a luxury hotel nestled deep in Abel Tasman National Park: The Awaroa Lodge, with standard rooms starting at NZ$300 a night.


After seeing just a few multiday hikers during our hour-long hike on a deserted beach and jungle trail, it was a bit of a shock to stumble onto this swanky hotel, crawling with pushy tourists and featuring drink prices higher than you'd find in Manhattan--and that's even after converting into US dollars.




We used their bathroom and hustled out of there.
